An “Elite” Beginning to Our “Vote Marvel” Campaign!

Super Heroes,

Yesterday, at Elite Comics in Overland Park, KS, we kicked off our “Vote Marvel” campaign as part of the fantastic “Free Comic Book Day” festivities that my friend William Binderup (the shop owner and a major friend of Super Heroes for Doa’a) put on to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his incredible store.

Prior to the store’s opening, scores of faithful fans were lined up outside of Elite Comics to receive the free comic books that are given away annually by the comic book industry in an effort to introduce the wonders of reading comic books to more and more people.

And while the fantastic folks were patiently waiting for their fabulous free floppies, valiant volunteers such a dedicated duo of volunteers (one who was cosplaying as Hawkeye Clint Barton and another who was cosplaying as Daredevil) who appeared courtesy of the Just-Us League helped me poll the polite patrons on what Marvel movie they would like to see shown at the fabulous Folly Theater as part of our September 16 benefit event.

The results of the polling conducted at Elite Comics will be announced in the Wednesday Update that will be coming out on May 10. As will the identity of the person who won the $25 gift certificate to Elite Comics that was offered up as a raffle prize to those Marvel-ous people who took part in our humble survey.

All in all, a good time was had by everybody who came out to Elite Comics yesterday. And our “Vote Marvel” campaign got off to a stellar start!

That wraps us this Postcard from the Vote Marvel Campaign Trail. I’ll check in with you all again soon. Have a super heroic day, everybody!

Your humble correspondent,

“Cowtown” Joe, Program Director for Super Heroes for Doa’a

Special Thanks To:

William and all of the amazing people at Elite Comics for letting us be a part of their fantastic “Free Comic Book Day” festivities. (It’s wonderful to be a part of the Elite Comics family. And I truly appreciate all that you do to help out the Super Heroes for Doa’a and Children’s Mercy Hospital– two of my favorite causes!)

To “Hawkeye Clint”, “Daredevil”, and Sarah from the Just-Us League for coming out and assisting us with the kickoff to the “Vote Marvel” campaign. (It was an honor to work with you outstanding people and I sure hope that we can do it again sometime!)

To Jim and all the wonderful people at Planet Comicon KC and Planet Anime KC who helped promote the launch of our “Vote Marvel” campaign. (It really means the universe to me that you extraordinary people helped spread the word about our efforts to help out Doa’a and Children’s Mercy Hospital. I can’t thank you all enough. And I sure hope that we can work together again sometime!)

To Rick, Stephanie, Mike and all the amazing people at the Folly Theater for letting us hold our fantastic fall fundraiser at your historic building! (I’m very proud to be a member of the Folly family and I look forward to doing all I can to make our amazing autumnal benefit event one for the ages. Thanks so much for everything!)

To Jasmine Estrada, co-host of Marvel’s Pull List podcast for helping inspire my writing and for co-hosting such a Marvel-ous podcast! (Thanks, Jasmine, for inspiring me with the amazing enthusiasm that you always put into your co-hosting of Marvel’s Pull List and your use of awesome phrases like “fabulous fresh floppies” in your shows. I was thinking of you when I wrote the phrase “fabulous free floppies” above in this blog posting, and I really appreciate you becoming one of my Muses! I look forward to hearing you on your next episode of Pull List. I’m proud to be your ambassador for the United States of Marvel’s Pull List and I keep looking for different ways to proudly wave the Marvel flag!)

To Stan “the Man” Lee for helping inspire this introverted, bookish, nerdboy to become a better promoter. And for encouraging me to give it all I’ve got on behalf of our Doa’a. (Thanks, Stan, for always being a father figure to me. And for showing me how it’s done as a peerless promoter. Please know that whenever I write “Super Heroes” in one of my posts, I’m hearing “True Believers” in my head and in my heart. And whenever I engage in word play in my writings, it’s all because of you. You were truly the best, Stan! Excelsior!)

About the “Vote Marvel” Campaign

The “Vote Marvel” campaign is being conducted to help promote the awesome autumnal event that the Super Heroes for Doa’a are holding on September 16 to raise money for our charitable program and for Children’s Mercy Hospital- “A Merry Marvel Movie Matinee at the Fabulous Folly Theater” .

Through the “Vote Marvel” campaign, people in the Kansas City metro are being invited to help us determine what Marvel movie will be shown at our fantastic fall fundraiser.

People can “Vote Marvel” by taking part in a Pop Up Polling Event like the one that occurred at Elite Comics yesterday. Or by voting online at SuperHeroesForDoaa.com/MarvelMovieKC.

Each Wednesday during the “Vote Marvel” campaign season, we will be publishing an update that will contain information on what Marvel movies are leading in the polling, as well as the identity of the person(s) who won any prize drawings that were held throughout the previous week.

For more info on the “Vote Marvel” campaign (and to vote if you live in the KC metro), please visit SuperHeroesForDoaa.com/MarvelMovieKC!

About Super Heroes for Doa’a

Joe Hoffman (aka “Cowtown Joe”) began the Super Heroes for Doa’a (a charitable program that was inspired by Joe’s love for Marvel team comics like the X-Men and the Avengers) to help bring Doa’a Al-Dalou, a young lady living in the Gaza Strip of Palestine, back to Kansas City so that she can receive some more medical treatment.

Joe previously had the honor of helping Elizabeth Alex (then a news anchor for KSHB 41 News) bring Doa’a (who at the time was a small child, not yet two years old) to Kansas City so that she could receive some much needed medical care while he was working for (at the time) US Representative Dennis Moore (KS-03).

For more information on how Joe was able to help out Doa’a in the past, and how he is working to assist her now in the present, please visit SuperHeroesForDoaa.com!

Super Heroes for Doa’a is a program of
Joe’s Cowtown Foundation, a 501(c)(3) Tax Exempt Not-For-Profit (EIN 92-1331821). All donations made to our organization are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
