Super Heroes,

I’m excited to announce to you wonderful people the launching of the “Vote Marvel” campaign!

Through this charitable campaign, Kansas City area Marvel fans will have the opportunity to vote for what Marvel movie they would like to have shown on Saturday, September 16 at our fantastic fall fundraiser- “A Merry Marvel Movie Matinee at the Fabulous Folly Theater”.

This amazing autumnal film showing is being held at the historic Folly Theater (300 W. 12th Street in Kansas City, Missouri) to benefit the Super Heroes for Doa’a and Children’s Mercy Hospital.

The profits that come in from this fabulous fall festival of Marvel super heroes will be split equally with our amazing local children’s hospital that’s been providing outstanding medical assistance to kids for over 125 years. And we will be using our share of the profits to help bring Doa’a Al-Dalou from the Gaza Strip of Palestine to Kansas City so that she can receive some much needed medical care.

“A Merry Marvel Movie Matinee at the Fabulous Folly Theater” is being held to celebrate the Marvel-ous origins of the Super Heroes for Doa’a, as the establishment of our charitable program was heavily influenced by my love for Marvel team comics such as the X-Men and the Avengers.

And the “Vote Marvel” campaign is taking me back to before I had the honor of helping out Doa’a the first time- when she was a small child (not yet two years old) and I was working for (at the time) US Representative Dennis Moore (KS-03).

That’s because if I hadn’t been able to help get Dennis Moore elected to the US House of Representatives in 1998, and then help him get re-elected to the US House in 2000, I wouldn’t have been there to help out Doa’a when her mom and dad reached out to Congressman Moore’s office for assistance with their young daughter in 2002.

When Doa’s parents reached out to US Representative Dennis Moore for help with Doa’a, I was working in the Congressman’s district office in Kansas City as an Immigrations and State Department Specialist Constituent Services Aide. And I had the honor of helping Doa’a and her family come to Kansas City so that she could receive some medical treatment that she wasn’t able to obtain in Palestine.

I’m really glad that I was there to help out Doa’a and her family the first time. And I’m happy that I’m able to assist with bringing Doa’a back to Kansas City now so that she can get some more medical treatment that she really needs to have.

I’m truly looking forward to officially kicking off the “Vote Marvel” campaign this coming Saturday, May 6 (aka “Free Comic Book Day”) at Elite Comics in Overland Park, Kansas. William Binderup (the shop owner and a major friend of the Super Heroes for Doa’a) was kind enough to invite us to join in the festivities that he will be having that day to help celebrate the 30th anniversary of his incredible store.

I hope that you will all come down to Elite Comics to join in the fun (if you are able). Along with William and his incredible crew, Trick Arrows, a super volunteer who cosplays as Hawkeye Kate Bishop (the Best Hawkeye) will be on hand along with members of the Just-US League, a terrific charitable organization that uses their love for cosplay to help out worthy causes like the Super Heroes for Doa’a.

I also hope that you all will take part in the “Vote Marvel” campaign and help us decide what Marvel movie we will show at our fabulous fall film showing on Saturday, September 16 at the historic Folly Theater.

Ticketing information for this sensational September shin-dig will be provided in the near future. And I will be sure to pass it along to you fantastic folks as soon as I can, so that hopefully you all can attend that amazing autumnal event and make it even more special.

Thanks very much for your continued support of our Doa’a, super heroes! It really means the universe to me, and to our sweet lady in Palestine and her family as well!

Have a super heroic day, everybody! I’ll check in with you all again soon!

About Super Heroes for Doa’a

Joe Hoffman (aka “Cowtown Joe”) began the Super Heroes for Doa’a (a charitable program that was inspired by Joe’s love for Marvel team comics like the X-Men and the Avengers) to help bring Doa’a Al-Dalou, a young lady living in the Gaza Strip of Palestine, back to Kansas City so that she can receive some more medical treatment.

Joe previously had the honor of helping Elizabeth Alex (then a news anchor for KSHB 41 News) bring Doa’a (who at the time was a small child, not yet two years old) to Kansas City so that she could receive some much needed medical care while he was working for (at the time) US Representative Dennis Moore (KS-03).
